What is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a type of malicious software that infects and blocks the system, demanding the ransom to get back access to your data. This malware can infect your operating system via downloaded malicious file, vulnerabilities in the network service or even via text message. Ransomware usually do not steal victim’s personal data, it encrypts it and demanding the ransom, often in Bitcoins currency. Ransomware is very dangerous and if you became a victim of ransomware infection, it will be very hard to get back your files without paying the ransom. But the problem is that even if you pay, first, you encourage cyber criminals, secondly, there is a fairly high probability that you will be scammed and your data will not be unlocked.

Types of Ransomware:

Device Lockers (or just Lockers) – usually this type of ransomware does not encrypt your data, but locks your screen and displays a full-screen image with the message about payment demands.

Cryptographers – the most famous from this type of ransomware are Cryptowall, Critroni and TorLocker. This type of ransomware encrypts victim’s files, images, documents and videos. After getting inside the system, malware connects with the control center of cyber criminals, generates an encryption key and encrypts files on victim’s computer. After that, victim will see the message on the screen, usually behalf of the law enforcement agencies to intimidate victims.
