There are two versions of DeriaLock Ransomware virus. The first one can be called «light» as it does not encrypt files on the infected machine. It just locks the screen instead demanding to pay for the unlock. In this state, a user cannot operate the computer properly or execute tasks. The second, updated version of DeriaLock is far more dangerous because not only it locks PC but also encrypts files in your system.
So as we said above, after penetrating the perimeter DeriaLock Ransomware virus will inform the user about its presence with a full-screen window. The message is clear and simple: «YOUR PC IS LOCKED BY DERIALOCK». However, there is another threatening addition to it promising to delete all your information if you try to reboot the system. However, it is not necessarily true.
That warning screen will pop up each time you launch your computer preventing proper booting of the device. Furthermore, once the block is in effect, you won’t be able to use important Windows functions (e.g. Task Manager) or run applications (Skype, internet browsers, etc.). This way DeriaLock tries to leave functionless against the virus. In the case with the second iteration of the virus, things get a little more complicated because after getting rid of the lock screen your files will still be encrypted. All infected files will get a .deria extension which makes them unreadable for the system without a decryption key. Whatever the version you got hit with, we suggest never follow the cyber terrorists’ demands. There are no guarantees that they will actually unblock your computer. Plus, you will become a sponsor for next attacks contributing to the development of newer viruses and malicious software.
Before proceeding with instructions for removing DeriaLock from your computer and decrypting files, we must explain how the virus gets into the system. It would be useful to know to prevent the spreading of the virus and its infiltration. Malicious spam emails are the primary source of getting infected with this ransomware. If you receive an email from the unknown source with a bizarre message and suspicious attachment, don’t rush to open it. Do not download and run executable files or applications from your inbox. There is a high chance of catching a virus, worm, Trojan, etc. by simply clicking infectious links, or viewing online content.
To recover the information damaged by the DeriaLock encryption you are going to need special recovery programs, for example, Data Recovery Pro. For dealing the initial DeriaLock threat, it is recommended to restart your computer in a Safe Mode and use an advanced anti-malware tool that will eliminate the threat.
